If you’re family or a friend reading this, you probably saw me announce this week that pre-orders are now available for my book. It’s a very exciting time, although one that brings up the icky feeling of “selling” something, which has always been a struggle for me.
In general, though, it’s exciting to be moving forward, and my goal is to get this book into the hands of as many people as possible. I truly want us to change the conversation about women’s mental health, and the best way to do that is in community - with readers!
If you are interested in pre-ordering, you can find the book on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Indigo, and anywhere else you buy books. I love supporting local bookstores when possible, so if you have a favourite shop around the corner, please call and ask them to order it!
After I posted all over my social channels, I checked Amazon rankings and was tickled to see that my book was in the top 10 for history/philosophy of medicine and about thirty-seventh for gender studies. I did some Googling into what Amazon rankings actually mean for authors and found out that it’s a whole lot of nothing. It’s difficult to know how these measures are developed, how accurate they are, and how much they translate into actual book sales. But still, after four years of hard work, it was at least SOME kind of smoke signal (if a weak one) that people were buying my book. So, I’ll take it!
Quick Comps
I’ve described what All In Her Head is about in a past post, but if you’re looking for how it stacks up to other reads that you’ve enjoyed, here’s a few suggestions. You’ll likely enjoy my book if you enjoyed:
Burnout, by Emily and Amelia Nagoski
Invisible Women, by Caroline Criado Perez
Unwell Women, by Elinor Cleghorn
BLEED, by Tracey Lindeman
You’ll probably also enjoy my book if you like blended memoirs. In this format you get a little bit of me, a little bit of other women’s stories, and a whole lot of SCIENCE! Nerd-out time with a dash of TMI. This is my favourite type of memoir, which is why I went this route when I proposed the book (I also LOVE creative non-fiction, which is when non-fiction reads like a fictional tale, but I honestly don’t think I have the writerly chops to pull this off….who knows, maybe someday I can go back to do a MFA!)
Sneak Peek
Are you a writer, book seller, librarian, media personality, or all-around much cooler person than me because your social followings are huge? Consider requesting an advanced reader copy! Please email me (prattmisty@hotmail.com) if you’re interested, and we can chat about how you can promote the book before its release on May 7, 2024.
Until next time,
Misty.
